Cleveland, Ohio – January 17, 2022 – Members of the board of directors of the Cleveland business law firm Wegman Hessler have elected Nathan Hessler, J.D., to the role of Managing Partner in a planned transition. He succeeds Peter Hessler. J.D., who will continue to manage and lead the firm’s estate and trust planning and administration practice area, in addition to representing a number of the firm’s nonprofit clients.

Nathan Hessler will be responsible for overseeing the firm’s administrative management as well as guiding its strategic direction and growth. He currently heads up the firm’s growing corporate law practice area and has been referred to as a “business strategist who happens to practice law,” known for his strength in applying legal discipline to identify and solve business problems. For business owners and operators, this includes what he calls “connecting the dots,” maintaining a deeper level of understanding of the needs of the individual operator and his/her organizations to unearth implications,
ramifications and impact of decisions and initiatives.

According to Senior Partner Peter Hessler, Nathan is a perfect fit to lead the firm at this time as its newest managing partner.

“Nathan has the vision and passion to lead us forward, growing the firm as we continue the legacy that has defined us over the past 50-plus years,” says Peter, who has been with Wegman Hessler for over 43 of those years.

“He joined the firm right out of law school in 1995 and he jumped right in with both feet,” he recalls about Nathan. “With him, there was no quit. I mean, he just dove into it, took the ball, ran with it and accomplished whatever the assignment was. I quickly came to understand that he had an extremely intuitive ability to understand, attack and solve a problem. And over the years, as he progressed and eventually moved into the business services area, you can see the positive effect he’s had on our growth…. It’s just been tremendous. For him now to assume the responsibilities of Managing Partner is well deserved, as he is an absolutely perfect fit for the firm’s clients and for the firm itself.”

Nathan Hessler has served clients as a business lawyer and strategist for more than 25 years, recognized among the “Best Lawyers in America” in 2021 and 2022 for his work in commercial law and litigation.

“When my father and grandfather started this firm, their goal was to take care of the legal needs of privately held companies, including the owners, operators and family members,” said Nathan. “It is an honor, a privilege, for me to continue their legacy, as Wegman Hessler continues to build on that strong foundation. At the end of the day, it’s about loyalty, service, commitment and providing thoughtful strategic value to help our clients prosper. I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Nathan is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, and is deeply involved in the community, serving, or having served, as: a member of the board of trustees of Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital and Lutheran Hospital (finance committee); board member of Cleveland Lutheran High School Association (President, Treasurer); board member of Lakewood Country Club (President, Treasurer); Lutheran Chaplaincy Service; Lutheran Children’s Aid and Family Services (President); Lutheran Elderhood Foundation, and Messiah Lutheran Church (chair of Administration & Finance Committee), and St. Ignatius High School Swim Team Boosters (Treasurer).

In November of 2021, he was inducted into the Lutheran West Distinguished Alumni Program. The honor recognizes those who have gone on to make impactful differences in their communities and the world. The transition of firm leadership was celebrated with an employee reception on January 13 at the firm’s offices on Rockside Woods Boulevard in Cleveland.
