Columbus, Ohio – Wegman Hessler Valore proudly participated in the Federalist Society’s Ohio Annual Chapters Conference on April 4, 2025, with the firm’s litigation practice lead Angela Lavin and litigation partner Jay Carlson representing the firm at the event.

The conference, which brought together legal scholars, practitioners, and members of the judiciary from across Ohio, featured panel discussions and debates on pressing constitutional and legal policy matters affecting both the state and nation.

The event featured a full day of discussions, including a keynote luncheon featuring Ohio Supreme Court Associate Justice R. Patrick DeWine, and Ohio Solicitor General T. Elliot Gaiser.

Sessions included:

  • Building a legal career in Ohio, including practice options in various firm sizes, rural vs. urban settings, and government roles;
  • Reform for higher education, examining administrative bloat in universities, tuition impacts, DEI initiatives, and ideas on reform;
  • A look at “the Progressive Prosecution Problem,” analyzing progressive prosecutor elections in Ohio’s major counties and potential state and federal responses;
  • A government efficiency discussion explored congressional versus executive authority, including the role of unelected bureaucrats in administrative agencies.

“It was a really good experience, thoughtful discussion and meaningful exchange of ideas,” said Lavin, reflecting on the conference. “The Federalist Society consistently provides a forum where attorneys representing diverse legal perspectives can learn from each other and explore the issues facing our current legal system.”

Founded in 1982, the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies brings together conservatives and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal landscape. The organization is committed to ideas and principles that uphold the idea that the state exists to preserve freedom, the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and it is the judiciary’s duty to interpret what the law is, not what it should be. The Society promotes awareness of these principles through various educational and discussion-based activities.

WHV’s sponsorship of the Ohio Annual Chapters Conference aligns with the firm’s 50-year commitment to staying at the forefront of constitutional and legal developments.
